Overview
Load testing of ship's cranes verifies structural integrity, lifting capacity and mechanical performance under controlled, weighted conditions. It is essential for safety at sea and for compliance with SOLAS, IMO and classification society requirements (e.g. Lloyd's Register, ABS, DNV).
Load tests confirm the crane can withstand expected loads and dynamic forces, reveal wear, structural weakness or mechanical issues (such as brake problems) that visual inspection may miss, and are required after major repairs, modifications or the 10-year major inspection.
